Temporary File System (TMPFS)
The default virtual file system for the /tmp directory, TMPFS holds temporary files and uses local memory to make file system reads and writes. All data in TMPFS is deleted when the computer is shut off.
track
A group of hard disk sectors, laid end to end.
transactional volume
A logical hard disk volume that stores information about UNIX File System (UFS) read and write transactions.
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
A networking protocol suite developed in the UNIX world in the late 1960s. TCP/IP is the most popular networking protocol in the world and is the protocol of the Internet.
trigger nodes
AutoFS mount points that do not have file systems mounted under them during the boot process, but will at a later point when the file system needs to be accessed.
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)
The protocol used by the boot server to transfer a boot file to client computers.
