Online tests and surveys are becoming ubiquitous at all levels of education. The convenience and freedom they provide to both teachers and students (and, as we've discussed here, to parents as well) bring a new level of functionality to a school's Web site. Additionally, by placing tests online, instructors can also include other supporting information, so that students can refer to graphics, maps, or other figures in order to answer a specific question. For the Center Park site, the administrators wanted to stay current with emerging educational trends in technology and allow their online testing component to be customizable to specific students, so that when a student logs in to the site, they see links to tests that are specific to their schedule and curriculum. Moreover, the school administrators wanted JavaScript code that was easily configurable so that the test could quickly be turned into a online survey for gathering critical parent feedback. The code demonstrated in this chapter should allow for all of these functional requirements to be achieved.
