There is one thing you must keep in mind as you travel around the pages of this book: Oracle Database 10g is a huge product with many, many more bells and whistles that we could discuss but chose not to. Other than the product name, the word Beginner in the book title is important. A Beginner's Guide is supposed to do the following:
Introduce the concepts of the software.
Discuss the major roles people play as they mind and interact with the software.
Guide the reader through the vast assortment of tools imbedded in the software, highlighting the most useful.
Provide the reader with opportunities to test-drive the software in a small, close, protected environment.
Point the user in the right direction such that their interests steer them to the meat of the product and allow them to expand their knowledge after a quick jumpstart.
This list is by no means complete, but it drives the way we have organized the following nine chapters for your reading enjoyment. Please fasten your seatbelts as we begin the descent into the wild and wonderful world of Oracle Database 10g!
