Also called a pseudo file system, a virtual file system resides in memory instead of on a hard disk.
virtual memory
Hard disk space used to emulate physical memory.
volume
Also known as a metadevice, a volume is a collection of hard disk slices acting as one logical unit and managed by the Solaris Volume Manager (SVM).
volume management
The management of removable media, including floppy disks and CD-ROMs.
Volume Table of Contents (VTOC)
Also known as the disk label, the VTOC contains disk geometry information and disk partition information.
