Finding Google Map MashupsWhere, pray tell, does one find all these Google map mashups? One can search Google with the query google map mashup, of course, or one can just go to Google Maps Mania (googlemapsmania.blogspot.com). As you can see in Figure 19.1, this is a blog that lists the best and the latest map mashups. It's an "unofficial" blog, but it's the de facto directory to the world of Google map mashups. Figure 19.1. Discover the latest map mashups at the Google Maps Mania blog.Another good source of map mashups is CommunityWalk (www.communitywalk.com). As you'll learn in Chapter 41, this is a site that lets you create your own mashups, based on simple web-form entry. The upshot is that the CommunityWalk site, shown in Figure 19.2, also is host to a ton of user-created mashups. It's worth a look. Figure 19.2. I'll list some of the most useful and interesting (not always the same thing) mashups I've found on the Web, organized by type. Remember, though, that since these mashups are all created by parties other than Google, their continued availability may vary. |
