Searching Google via Text Messaging

If your phone doesn't have a web browser built-in, you can still access some of Google's search features via text messaging using the Google SMS service. Essentially, you send a text message to Google containing your query; Google sends you a message in reply that contains the search results.

Here's how it works:

1.
Type a text message into your phone that contains the keywords in your query.

2.
Send the text message to the number 46645 (that's GOOGL, if you do letters instead of numbers).

3.
Wait for Google to send you a text message containing the search results.

What kinds of queries can you ask via text messaging? You can search for businesses (business zipcode), movie show times (movie zipcode), weather forecasts (weather zipcode), stock quotes (symbol), driving directions (city state to city state), and so forth. Essentially, you can send any standard Google query via text messaging, and get the text-based results in a return message.
