Adding Customizable Google Free WebSearch

Here's another cool option for adding search to your site. With customizable Google Free WebSearch, you not only add a web search or web/site search box to your page, you also get to customize how the search results page will look. You can change the background color of the page, the color of the text, even add your own logo (as shown in Figure 39.4). And it's all a matter of filling in some simple web forms.

Just follow these steps:

1.
Go to www.google.com/services/free.html and click the Customize Google for Your Site button.

When the next page appears, as shown in Figure 39.5, select whether you want WebSearch or WebSearch plus SiteSearch. If you choose WebSearch plus SiteSearch, enter the domain name of your site. Then click the Continue button.

When the next page appears, as shown in Figure 39.6, enter any and all information you wantthe URL, size, and alignment of your logo, page and text colors, and so on. Click the Preview button to see how this will look, and when you're satisfied with the results, click the Continue button.

On the next page, enter your name, email address password, and other information, and then click the Continue button.

5.
Google now generates a batch of HTML code. Copy this code, and then paste it into the code for your web page where you want the search box to appear.
