Signing Up for News Alerts

Back in Chapter 15, "Keeping Updated with Google Alerts," you learned all about Google Alerts. As you recall you can use Google Alerts to notify you via email when news articles appear online that match the topics you specify. This way you can monitor breaking news stories, keep tabs on industries or competitors, or just stay up-to-date on specific types of events.

To sign up for a Google News Alert, follow these steps:

1.
From the Google News page, click the News Alerts link.

2.
When the Google Alerts page appears, as shown in Figure 29.9, enter your query into the Search Terms box.

3.
Pull down the type list and select News.

4.
Pull down the How Often list and select how often you want to receive alertsOnce a Day, Once a Week, or As-It-Happens.

5.
Click the Create Alert button.

Tip

As-It-Happens is the best option for receiving alerts about breaking news stories.

You'll now receive email messages, on the schedule you specified, containing the latest news headlines on that specific subject.
